ABOUT ME

My Journey to Becoming a CBT Psychotherapist
My journey to becoming a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) psychotherapist was not a straight path, and it certainly came with its share of challenges. Like many people, my life didn’t go to plan, and it was during one of the lowest points in my life that I made the decision to completely change direction and retrain as a therapist. Looking back now, it was one of the most important decisions I have ever made.
Training in CBT therapy didn’t just give me a new career – it changed my entire outlook on life. Through therapy and CBT techniques, I was able to rebuild my confidence, improve my self-esteem, and develop a stronger sense of self-worth. I understand what it feels like to be in a dark place, because I have been there myself. With the help and support of therapy, I found my way through, and that experience deeply informs the empathy and understanding I bring to my work with clients today.
Training and Experience
During my psychotherapy training, I worked with two local charities. One organisation supports survivors of childhood sexual abuse and trauma, while the other works with a broader range of clients experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, and life difficulties.
I continue to work with the second charity today, which allows me to support people from many different backgrounds and with a wide range of issues. This experience ensures my skills remain current, adaptable, and grounded in real-world therapeutic practice.
Professional Background
Before retraining as a psychotherapist, I spent many years working in the hospitality and service industries, roles that helped me develop strong interpersonal and communication skills.
While training to become a CBT therapist, I also worked supporting vulnerable families with housing needs, and later continued working in the sector supporting people experiencing homelessness. These roles strengthened my understanding of the complex challenges people face and deepened my commitment to helping others improve their mental health and wellbeing.
When the time was right, I made the decision to establish my own private CBT therapy practice, where I now support individuals seeking practical, compassionate help with their mental health.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is positive, supportive, and solution-focused. I aim to create a safe and compassionate space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered.
I am warm, patient, and empathetic, and I understand the mountain it can feel like you need to climb in order to feel better. The most important thing to know is that you do not have to face it alone.
Through CBT therapy, we work together to understand your thoughts,
emotions, and behaviours, helping you develop practical tools to move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
